Principal's July Letter 2014

4 July 2014

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As we begin Semester Two, I would like to share what I have shared with the students during assembly.

A boy went to his mother and told her about his life and how things were so hard for him. He wanted to give up and was tired of struggling. It seemed that as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

The mother took him to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to a boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil, without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes, she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.

Turning to the son, she asked, “Tell me, what do you see?” The son said, “I see carrots, eggs and coffee.”

His mother brought him closer and asked him to feel the carrot, peel the eggs and drink the coffee. With a puzzled look, he asked her what do all these mean?

His mother explained that each of these items had faced the same difficulties – boiling water. Each of them however reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard and unrelenting but after being boiled, it became soft and weak. The egg was fragile. Its thin shell protected its liquid interior. After being boiled it became hardened. The ground coffee beans were special. After being in boiling water, they changed the water.

The mother asked the son, “Which are you? When you face difficulties how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?”

It is important that we remain steadfast and persevere even when we are faced with difficulties. Are we like coffee beans that would try our best to change our environment? Or do we become like carrots that turn soft or like eggs that become hardened inside when faced with difficulties? Let us not give up when faced with difficulties which we are bound to face. Do encourage our children to be like coffee beans to be resilient and persevere in their learning!

BRPS Open House

Blangah Rise will be holding its third Open House on Saturday, 12 July 2014. Do come and see how your children have been learning and growing to become confident learners and caring leaders in Blangah Rise!

Educational booths will be set up to explain the interesting and exciting learning that takes place at each level in a student’s life in Blangah Rise.  A school tour with a special visit to classrooms will be arranged to experience ‘live’ lesson demonstrations by our very own teachers!

We look forward to your support and hope to see you at our Open House! More details of the program can be found on the response slip attached.

B. In conclusion

I am thankful for the hard work that many of my colleagues put in for the children. Many parents have come forward to thank the school for going the extra mile.

We will continue to strive to make a difference for each child in BRPS. Do continue to give us your support and when others ask you about BRPS, tell them the good work that you have seen and experienced for yourself!

Yours sincerely,
