Principal's March Letter 2015

9 March 2015

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As we come to the end of Term 1, we have many things to be thankful about! We had many meaningful and enriching experiences for our students through the Total Defence Week, Chinese New Year Celebrations and the English Language Festival. One of the highlights of the English Language Festival was a visit and talk by Matt Dinkinson, a National Geographic filmmaker and photographer who have conquered the summit of Mount Everest!

We have more learning experiences lined up for our children throughout the year! Upcoming will be our Games Day as well as our annual Sentosa Kidz Flea!

Upcoming School Events

Games Day 2015

This year, we are ending Term 1 on 13 Mar with a Games Day in ‘Celebration of a Good Start’! In replacement of our Sports Day, Games Day aims to inculcate in Blangahnites a joy of learning and develop confidence through a variety of sports and games as well as healthy lifestyle activities.

School will start as usual and the event will be held in school for most of the children except for the Primary 5 and 6 students who will be going to Hort Park. A separate consent form will be issued for that. School will be dismissed at 12pm and there will be no CCA. Children need not bring their books

If your child goes home by taking the school bus, the school has informed the bus company to pick your child at 12pm. Otherwise, please make the necessary arrangements for your child’s transport home.

Developing Entrepreneurial Skills –

Sentosa Kids Flea Market & Singapore Red Cross International Bazaar 2015

As part of developing our pupils’ social entrepreneurial skills, we have partnered with Sentosa to set up stalls at the unique Sentosa Kidz Flea Market near the Beach Plaza from 14 to 17 March, 2.30pm to 7.30pm. A total of 60 pupils from Primary 4 will be selling things such as books, personalised and limited edition postcards from Young Photographers (P4 and P5 ICT Enrichment), fashion accessories and soft toys to raise funds for the needy in the community.

The P4 pupils attended a Social Entrepreneurship Skills workshop in February this year. In Sentosa, they will put in practice these entrepreneur skills and learn how to operate a stall, develop self-confidence and hone their social skills.

In addition, our pupils in the Red Cross Club will also be representing BRPS in support of the Singapore Red Cross International Bazaar 2015 at Ngee Ann City, Civic Plaza (Orchard Road) on 15th March, 10am to 7pm.  We will be setting up a stall “HENNA ME HAPPY @ BRPS”.

Do join us for a fun-filled time at Sentosa and Ngee Ann City during this coming school holidays!

Examination Matters

In April, all pupils with the exception of Primary 1 & 2 will be taking their Semestral Assessment 1 this year. A detailed examination schedule for each level is attached (See Annex A).

Please be reminded that any absence during the examination must be supported with the necessary documentation like a doctor’s medical certificate, death certificate of bereavement, etc. If your child/ward is absent without a valid reason, he/she will be not be awarded any marks for the paper that he/she did not take.

Do take time during this March school holidays to revise with your child and prepare for the examinations!

STRATEGIC THRUSTS

Strategic Thrust One: Competent and Caring Staff

New Mobile Attendance and Communications Application

The School will be introducing a mobile application, School Notification and Attendance App (SNAAPP),  for attendance taking and sending notification to parents. SNAAPP is supported by IOS and Android and there is also a web version (http://mggsoftware.com\snaapp).

SNAAPP allows schools to send important messages to parents and notifies parents when their child is absent or late for school.  Do note that all notifications or messages will be school-initiated.

Parents who wish to receive notification through SNAAPP will need to download the free app from Apple App Store or Android Play Store. The details of how to login and make use of SNAAPP are shown in the step-by-step guide attached (Annex B), which can also be found on the school website. Should you face any technical difficulties, please inform your child’s Form Teacher.

We look forward to your support in implementing this new technology that will allow us to foster closer real-time communication with you.

Strategic Thrust Three: Developing Caring Leaders

Every Blangahnite A Caring Leader! – Student Leadership Programme for all pupils

As part of the school’s vision to develop confident learners and caring leaders, we have organised a student leadership programme for all pupils. The programme incorporates the four school values and it is also aligned to MOE’s set of Social and Emotional (SE) Competencies and the Character & Citizenship Education (CCE) Learning Outcomes. The programme is tailored differently for each level. The activity will be carried out during curriculum time and pupils are to report to school, as per normal, at 7.35 am. More information will be provided at a later date.

Monday, 30 March 2015 8.00 am to 1.30 pm P1, P3 and P5 students
Tuesday, 31 March 2015 8.00 am to 1.30 pm P2, P4 and P6 students

 Strategic Thrust Four: Effective Partnership

Family Time in Character and Citizenship (CCE)

Family Time is a new feature in the CCE Lessons, providing suggested activities for families to bond. These activities values to be taught gradually over time, allowing parents to partner schools on this meaningful journey of values inculcation in their children.

The platforms for Family time include Active dialogue, Bonding and providing Continuous feedback to their children. Do approach you child to share the brochure on Family Time with you and have a wonderful time bonding with your child with the activities in the CCE book!

Yours sincerely,

Matthew Ou

Principal
